ALEXANDER MONTGOMERY was born about 1810 in South Carolina¹. He is the son of Robert Montgomery and Rebecca Coffee. 

Very little is known about Alexander. He is known to have fathered at least one child, William A. Montgomery who was known as "Flatwood Bill." The 1860 Federal census of Pontotoc County, Mississippi lists Alexander without a wife. William was nine years old at the time. They are living in the dwelling of Berry and Harriet Robertson. His occupation according to this census was mechanic.  A mechanic in the South, during this era, is likely to have been a cotton gin mechanic.  This census provides all the verifiable information I have on Alexander. Thus, many questions remain including: 

	Had he been married and to whom? How did his wife die?
	When and where did he die?
	What is his relationship to Berry and Harriet Robertson, if any? Could Harriet be his daughter? Did he have any other children besides William?
