Rebecca Coffee

REBECCA COFFEE was born 1774 in South Carolina1, and died in September 1859 in Pontotoc Co., Mississippi to causes unknown following a three month illness.2  She married Robert Montgomery.  He was born 1765 in South Carolina3, and died 1850 in LaFayette Co., Mississippi.

Nothing is known of Rebecca's origins.  That she was born in South Carolina is confirmed by the 1850 Census.  At that date she was living in Lafayette County, Mississippi with her husband, Robert Montgomery, who died that same year.  They were living near her youngest daughter (Rebecca Jane), son-in-law (James Gideon) and grandchildren.

Possibly after Robert died, she moved to Pontotoc County because she died there in September 1859 after an illness lasting three months.  She is listed on the mortality schedule for Pontotoc County in 1860.

I am working on the assumption that  both Robert Montgomery and Rebecca Coffee are from Lancaster County, South Carolina.  There are both Montgomery and Coffee families on the 1790 census.  Perhaps she is the daughter of Hugh Coffee and Agnes Montgomery Coffee.  If so, she may be known as Jane to genealogy researchers.  Or she may be an unknown to them.
